Hans Scheuerecker was born in 1951 in Römhild (Thuringia). After completing an apprenticeship as an electrical fitter and his military service, he moved to Cottbus, working as a trainee in the painting department of the state theatre. Between 1982 and 1986 he taught at the Cottbus branch of the Academy of Art in Dresden. In 1992 he became the first to be awarded the Art Prize of the State of Brandenburg, an honoured he received again in 2011. Scheuerecker lives and works in Cottbus (Brandenburg).
