To accompany the exhibition “Tête-à-Tête. Köpfe aus der Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank”, the Werkstatt für Kreative will teach the technique of portraits on handmade paper in age-differentiated workshops from January to the end of June 2020.

During a visit to the exhibition in the Kunstforum der Berliner Volksbank, children and young people will have the opportunity to recognise the rich diversity of two- and three-dimensional forms of representation of portraits by artists such as Luciano Castelli, Angela Hampel, Gerd Sonntag and Ulla Walter and will receive initial inspiration for the subsequent workshop.

In the practical part, the children and young people then create their own papers from cotton pulp in the rooms of the “Werkstatt für Kreative” under the expert guidance of art educators. The slightly irregular, lively structure of the resulting background and the contrasting colours of the pulp enable expressive, individual works.

  • for children and young people between 5 and 18 years
  • registration is required
  • the offer is free of charge

If the quota is exhausted, it is possible to book an additional workshop for a fee.

For the exhibition “ZEITENWENDE – Dreißig Jahre Mauerfall. Werke aus der Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank,” the Werkstatt für Kreative teaches the special technique of “sgraffito” in age-differentiated workshops.

The workshop “Mauer(n) ritzen – Sgraffito auf Ölpastell” is divided into two parts. First, in the theoretical part, during the joint visit to the exhibition in the art forum, participants are introduced, and their curiosity awakened, to techniques and motifs using two or three works from the Berliner Volksbank collection.

Under the professional guidance of art educators, the practical part in the rooms of the Werkstatt für Kreative encourages and stimulates the participants’ own creativity. Children and young people are guided by the oil pastel painting style of the Berlin-based artist Giuseppe Madonia. Imaginative motifs are scraped and scratched out of densely pigmented layers of paint.

For the fifth time in 2019, the”Werkstatt für Kreative” der Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH participated in KinderKulturMonat with a workshop programme. On Sunday, 20 October 2019, around 30 children and young people with and without parental guidance took part in the workshop “Mauer(n) ritzen – Scraffito auf Ölpastell”.

During the KinderKulturMonat, participating children and young people enjoy art and culture for free on all weekends in October in Berlin. Around 50 museums, theatres, opera houses, studios, concert halls and galleries offer more than 90 age-appropriate workshops, guided tours and visits to exhibitions and performances.

Papeteriewerkstatt satt!
at FEZitty – HAUPTSTADT DER KINDER

Printing, gluing, punching: During the summer holidays 2019 there was a lot to experience in FEZitty – the capital of children. This is how the “Werkstatt für Kreative” of the Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH created chic decorative paper, picture frames, pennants, useful notebooks and tags. In the “Papeteriewerkstatt” different materials were presented in order to implement one’s own ideas and to print patterns on paper.

Finally, the children and art teachers thought about the packaging and presentation of the products together, as part of the product was also intended for sale in FEZitty’s own supermarket. Of course, the works could be taken home.

After work, there was no shortage of fun and summer fun in the FEZ, e.g. B. in the city’s own circus, playing football or visiting a fashion show.

Die dritte Dimension – Pop-Up Art
im Kids kreativ Sommerferiencamp

Whether it is jewellery made of paper or making new things by recycling – at the Oranienburger Kids Kreativ Sommerferiencamp, which took place at the Oranienwerk for the third time in 2019, 7- to 16-year-olds are encouraged to open their creativity with fun and curiosity in various workshops during the last week of the summer holidays, e.g. learning about the technique of pop-up art together with the Werkstatt für Kreative.

The spring 2019 programme of the Werkstatt für Kreative is about the surprising technique of Pop-Up Art. With imagination and skill, a three-dimensional work of art is created in layers. For example, it unfolds from a folding card or a book by opening the page.

The programme of the Werkstatt für Kreative is based on the current exhibition in the Kunstforum der Berliner Volksbank “BOHÈME IN CHARLOTTENBURG – HANS LAABS UND FREUNDE. Werke aus der Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank.” Hans Laabs (1915-2004) was an artist who came to Berlin after World War II and, as a multi-talented artist, promoted the reconstruction of West Berlin’s cultural scene.

As a partner of FEZitty, Berliner Volksbank eG, together with the Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH, supported one of the most popular summer holiday events in Berlin from July 9th to August 17th, 2018.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, every hour at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., young hobby printers could try their hand at designing banknotes in the creative workshop.

Art educators from the Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH “Werkstatt für Kreative” instructed children between the ages of 6 and 14 in designing and printing the coveted “Wuhlis”. This is the currency with which the activities in the “capital of children” are rewarded.
With the results, the participants were able to take part in the “New Wuhlis for FEZitty” competition. A jury will award the best designs from the workshop “Wuhlis”. They could then become the official “means of payment” at FEZitty in 2019.

Especially in the fifth week of vacation, everything revolves around the topic of money. The aim was to show in a playful way how important it is to take good care of your financial affairs.

The Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH has been involved in the field of culture for children and young people for many years. The free workshops of the “Werkstatt für Kreative” were launched thirteen years ago. Since then, around 2,150 school classes from Berlin and Brandenburg with more than 46,000 children and young people have attended the workshops.

In painting, it is called a shoulder piece, in plastic art, it is called a bust. What is meant is a likeness in which only the section from the head to the shoulder is visible. From an early age, art was concerned with the creation of human likenesses. Whether it was the first drawings in caves, representations in the pyramids, Greek and Roman sculptures, religious motifs from the Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance periods, or portraits in modern art today. The human being is always at the centre of artistic interest.

The pure portrait bust is often made for appreciation or commemoration. Different materials are used for busts of different dimensions. The aim of this very old portrait form is to emphasise the personality of the person portrayed by concentrating on the reduced details.

Starting with works from the collection of the Berliner Volksbank, the pupils look at busts and paintings from the art collection that are based on the human anatomy. In the process, the characteristics of this art form are worked out and then practically implemented with air-drying modelling clay.

From April to October 2017, the Werkstatt für Kreative took part in the IGA Berlin 2017 under the motto “Der Natur auf der Spur – Mit Stift und Farbe forschen” (On the trail of nature – researching with pencil and paint). In around 130 family and holiday workshops, children and young people from Berlin and Brandenburg were able to draw, rub or print leaves, grasses and flowers with their siblings, parents and grandparents. The small works of art could then be taken home in a research book.

The four techniques (from the researcher’s book)

Frottage
The name comes from the French. In this technique, the outlines and structure of an object are “rubbed off” with the help of pen and paper.

Monotype
This technique, developed by an Italian artist in the 17th century, involves either placing a sheet of paper on a plate coated with printing ink and drawing a motif on it. Or, it is drawn directly onto the plate and the printing ink is printed onto the sheet.

Embossing
Embossing is a printing technique that can be used without ink and is used to finish paper or fabrics.

Drawing
A motif is captured on paper with pencil through lines, strokes and hatchings. The precise observation of the object plays the decisive role.

On the KUNSTHERBST interactive art tours, children and young people from Berlin meet gallery owners, artists, art collectors and museum staff. The tours opens their doors and gives the pupils an insight into places where art is produced, sold and presented. The children and young people are allowed to ask questions, touch, try things out and take a look behind the scenes – and thus gain exclusive insights into the city’s art business.

In Autumn, the Projekt des Fachbereichs Philosophie und Geisteswissenschaften der Freien Universität Berlin besucht regularly visits the Workshops der Werkstatt für Kreative der Stiftung KUNSTFORUM der Berliner Volksbank gGmbH.
